We have exciting news regarding our $60,000 project to expand our Summit University apex predator enclosure by completing the second half of the space. Thanks to some generous and very unexpected donations, including one from A Kinder World Foundation, our goal has not only been met but it’s been exceeded!
This means that our work on the space can continue while we have a break from caring for Black Bear cubs. As you likely know, this project requires a lot of hard work. Much of this work happens at off-site shops, where all the necessary equipment is used to make these incredibly strong and reinforced parts, like the triple door system, for instance. Once the parts are built, they are transported to Summit University for installation.
We just recently received the doors, which we hope to have installed shortly. Next will be the guillotine doors and the build-out of the second den area. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the goal is to have the entire project completed by mid-August.
We were getting close to having to halt work on this project due to the depletion of funds, but thanks to every single person who has supported it, along with the final donations, we are able to continue! Thank you for liking, following along, sharing, and donating.
You might be wondering what will happen to the remaining funds that exceeded our initial goal. They will be put towards ongoing enrichment projects within Summit University. Every cent donated to this project will go right back to the enclosure and its occupants, including Black Bear cubs (and other species when we do not have cubs in care).
Again, thank you to everyone who has made this project possible. Seeing such amazing people rally together to help Black Bears and so many other critters that will benefit from this project fills us with hope and gratitude. Together, we can make a huge difference for wildlife and the environment.
We hope you’ll stay tuned for updates as we continue to work on this project. We will share pictures, videos, and of course, a celebratory announcement once it is complete!
