Laying the Foundation for Large Mammal Rehabilitation

Exciting news this week as we were able to lay the foundation for the new large mammal enclosure (nicknamed last year as Bear Cub University)! Crews and trucks arrived at 4am to start pouring foundation walls around the steel post that will make up the 12-foot-high chain-link fence walls. Then the concrete floors in two den areas were poured, completing the concrete work for this enclosure.

This new wildlife enclosure project would not have been possible without our amazing partners: Livingston’s Concrete Service, Inc., Folsom Ready Mix, and Hanford Sand & Gravel Inc., for delivering the concrete. Thank you to Mike Moro of Sierra Valley Concrete for arranging the donation of the concrete pump. Thank you to CF&T Concrete Pumping for pumping concrete and Daniel Fink for donating his time to run the pump! And finally a big thanks to Bob Perrine for arranging for the donation of concrete! Thank you for your support for our wildlife as we continue to expand at Gold Country Wildlife Rescue. Every little bit helps us in a big way!

The next steps for this enclosure will be to install chain-link across the entire bottom, 3’ below the ground. Next, steel beams will be installed to support the chain-link ceiling and roofing structure. Stay tuned for more updates as we grow!
