"Animals cannot tell us how they feel,
but they do not suffer less because they have no words."

Launching day for American RobinThis was launching day for two baby American Robins.  They had been knocked out of their nest by a scrub jay and when volunteers, John and Deb Kirkpatrick, received them one of the babies had a leg that wasn't in use.  It was taken to Dr. Jackson at the Animal Medical Center and he said that nothing was wrong with the leg and the knee joint was probably sore.  The leg was smaller in thickness than the good leg.  He recommended physical therapy by exercising the leg at every feeding.  After a week the leg was functioning and rapidly grew in thickness to the same size as the good leg.  On launching day, one of the robins took off and flew away.  However, the one that had physical therapy had bonded to our volunteers and kept hanging around.  John and Deb took it to another volunteer, Carrie Ivins, to put in her flight cage and "wild it up" before a successful launch at the end of August.
